No. 574.)
BY AIR MAIL.
Sir,
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG.
48
25th October, 1935.
I have the honour to request your sanction,
in accordance with Colonial Regulation 265 for supplementary
expenditure of $19,000 in respect of the Upper Levels
Police Station, Head 34, Sub-head 2, of the Estimates for
1935.
2. $50,000 was provided for this work in the
Estimates for 1934, but only $39,281 was expended. The
amount provided in the current Estimates is $120,000 and
$40,000 to complete the work is provided in the draft Estimates for 1936. Better progress has recently been
made than w as anticipated and the actual expenditure for
this year is now estimated at $139,000, leaving $34,719 to meet final bills and retention money in respect of 1936.
3. It will be seen from these figures that the
revised estimate for the work has been reduced to $213,000
from the original estimate of $220,000.
4.
I should be glad to have your authority by
telegraph to take a supplementary vote for the $19,000
required this year. The Finance Committee of the Legislative
Council has been consulted informally on the matter and has
unanimously approved of this additional expenditure.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
MALCOLM MACDONALD, M.P.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
N.L. Sunte
